Drawing Games for Kids — Including One With No Reading
Most online drawing games assume two things: that there are several players, and that everyone can read. Both assumptions rule out a lot of younger children.
Guess the Drawing — two modes, one game
Guess the Drawing runs in the browser with nothing to install. A sketch draws itself on screen, stroke by stroke, and the player picks what it is before the pen finishes. Three answers, three lives, and the drawing gets faster the longer you last.
It has two answer modes, and picking the right one for the child’s age is the difference between a game they love and a game they quit:
Pictures mode — for children who cannot read yet
The three answers are finished drawings instead of text. The child watches the sketch appear and taps the picture that matches. There is nothing to read, so it works from about the age of three — as soon as a child can recognise a cat, they can play.
Words mode — for readers
The three answers are short phrases: “Cat sleeping on a pillow”, “Owl with moon glasses”. Now the child has to read three options under time pressure and match a description to a shape, which is real reading practice disguised as a game. Better for roughly seven and up, and it is the mode adults will want.

Why guessing games are good practice
Recognising a drawing from a few lines is the same mental skill as deciding which lines to draw. A child who plays a guessing game is learning to read shape and proportion, which is exactly what they need when they pick up a pencil themselves.
Turning the game into actual drawing
The drawings in the game come from the same gallery the app uses, so anything a child enjoys guessing can then be traced. Put a sketch on the screen, lay thin paper over it, and let them copy it. For bigger drawings, prop the phone over a sheet and use the camera overlay.
